Kurt Bachmann, Jr. played in four NCAA seasons for the Green Archers (seniors’ division) from 1956 to 1959. He led La Salle to the NCAA juniors’ title in 1955 and the seniors’ crown in 1956. He donned the Philippine colors for basketball during the winning the crown in the 1958 Asian Games held in Tokyo and again in the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta. And he anchored the national squad that took the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) plum in 1960. He also represented the country in the Chile World Basketball Championship in 1959 and the Rome Summer Olympics in 1960. He joined the YCO and hit the buzzer beater that lifted Yco to its seventh straight national title in 1960. He was inducted into the DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 and the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. In a speech he made during his induction to National Basketball Hall of Fame he said “The pinnacle of my career was to proudly represent my country, the Philippines, in international competitions. Nothing else mattered. In other words, my motto then and as it is today, “bayan muna, bago lahat.”
