Mike Barredo lost his sight in an accident in 1979. Despite his disability, he has served in many positions, most notably as President of International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) from 2005 until 2013. He was also the founding President of the National Paralympic Committee of the Philippines in 1997. A former commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commissioner (PSC), Mike is the President of the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (PSC-PHILSPADA) that hosts the Philippine Para National Games. In 1987, Mike was given the “Presidential Award for Meritorious Service for Community Development” by the Manila Jaycees. In 1989, he received the Apolinario Mabini Award for Outstanding Disabled in the field of business. Mike was given “The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award for humanitarian service in 1993. He was inducted into the DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2013, Mike was one of the four pioneers of disabled sport to be honoured with Paralympic Order from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the highest honour a person connected with the Paralympic Movement can receive.
