DLSAA Lasallian Achievement Awardee
for his impressive years devoted to educating and training technology students and developers, and deeply delving into further research and academic work that ultimately advanced Philippine robotics and automation industries
After graduating from De La Salle University, Dr.
Ang completed his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of Hawaii at Manoa,
Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1985. Then he worked on his
M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering at
the University of Rochester, New York, from 1986-
1988.
After that, Dr. Ang headed the Technical Training
Division of Intel’s Assembly and Test Facility in
the Philippines. He was also heavily involved in
research at the East West Center in Hawaii and at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Ang currently serves as an Associate Professor
of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at
the National University of Singapore. He broke new
ground in the field of robotics when he developed
the first ever programmable robotic-based system
for welding ships.
Aside from this, Dr. Ang also worked with
the Singapore MIT Alliance for Research and
Technology to advance the state of autonomous
driving. He is part of various associations and
committees that oversee the latest developments
and trends in his field. On top of this, Dr. Ang is
the founding chairman of the Singapore Robotics
Games and sits on the Advisory Council for the
World Robot Olympiad. Dr. Ang recently won the Merit Award from
Enterprise Singapore because of his invaluable
contributions towards quality and standards in
2018. In 2015, he got the Capek Award in France
for his exceptional contributions in the scientific
development and practical applications of robotics.
Together with his colleagues, Dr. Ang is responsible
for numerous patents, such as the Startup Involving
Self-Driving Vehicle Technology in 2013, and
Dynamic Virtual Bumper: Obstacle-Aware Speed
Controller System in 2018.
