Miguel dela Riva Preysler Mike was only eight years old when he first became the Philippine Junior Sailing Champion, a title he held from 1957 to 1960. He won titles in the Far East Yacht Racing Federation and was the Yachtsman of the year. During his stay in La Salle, he engaged in another sport – golf. He won the Philippine National Junior Golf Championships in 1966 and 1967, the best amateur plum at the Manila Golf Open from 1967-1971. He joined the Philippine National Golf team which won five straight South East Asian championships from 1969 to 1973. He also won the Philippine National Stroke Play Championship in 1971. Mike was a member of the 1972 La Salle team at the Philippine Interscholastic Golf Team Championship. He migrated to Sotogrande in Spain in 1977 and continued to win champioinships abroad. In 2005, Mike received the greatest distinction given by the Andalucian Golf Federation – the gold Medal for Merit to Golf. He was also honored by the Spanish and Andalucian Golf Federation for having won three European titles in 2006. He was inducted into the DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
