Emilio Ugarte Jr. played for La Salle in the NCAA juniors that won the crown for tow years. He also played for the Philippines in the Asian Youth Cup in Bangkok. He then played with the champion Seniors team in the NCAA for two years. He left La Salle to study in the University of San Francisco. Upon his return to the Philippines after graduation, he played for the Meralco Football club which won the championship in the Lobregat Cup. The Club also won the PFA Soccer Cup Tournament in 1972. He continued to play football when he migrated to Australia. He retired from the game in 1984. He was inducted into the DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
