Br. Benedict Golf Cup Soars on Its 20th Year

For two decades, the Br. Benedict Golf Cup has been more than just a tournament—it has been a symbol of legacy, camaraderie, and excellence. On February 19, 2025, The Country Club provided the perfect stage for this milestone edition, bringing together 105 players eager to etch their names into history.

Hosted by the De La Salle Alumni Association and led by its president, Prof. Randy I. Nonato, the tournament embodied both prestige and tradition. Along with Prof. Randy, co-chairpersons, Engr. Noel Tanglao, and fellow Jubilarian, Mr. Leo Mendoza, steered the event with remarkable leadership, ensuring that every moment carried significance. Adding to the atmosphere was Ms. Charm Garcia, whose vibrant presence as both host and singer energized the day’s festivities. The event was further elevated by the smooth, soulful saxophone melodies of Mr. Vince Lahorra, lending a touch of refined elegance to the occasion.

A special thanks to our distinguished Lasallian, Mr. Manny Tordesillas, for endorsing and hosting the 20th Br. Benedict Golf Cup at The Country Club—an exclusive, invite-only golf course that made the event even more special. The ceremonial tee-off at Hole No. 10 at 7:30 AM was a grand moment, led by Engr. Noel Tanglao, Leo Mendoza, Albert M.G. Garcia (Mega Fibre, Hole-in-One Sponsor), Mark Mar2wsk Ronquillo (3 Strokes, Hole-in-One Sponsor), and Prof. Randy I. Nonato. DLSAA Treasurer, Mr. Jake Dreyfus joyfully witnessed it together with several golf enthusiasts. With the sun rising over the pristine fairways, the tournament officially began—setting the tone for a day of spirited competition.

A stellar lineup of sponsors—including SMDC, OviaLand, PGA Clubshares, Ayala Land Premier, G Score, Splendido Taal Golf Club, Cosmic Raven Ventures, Dr. Essentials, South Point Driving Range, Ibarra Manila, Megafiber, 3 Strokes, K&G, U-Huat International Travel, Inc. & Marriott, B.H.E. Golf Apparel and Sportswear, Zoomanity Group, and Let’s Golf Pare!—ensured that the tournament carried the grandeur befitting its 20th edition.

And when it came to on-course excellence, the competition delivered. Gabby Herbosa showcased brilliance with a Low Gross score of 76, while Fred De La Cruz claimed the Low Net title with tactical precision. In Men’s Class A, Miguel Angelo Chan emerged as the champion, overcoming stiff challenges from Sebastian Thomas Uichico and Jay Millonado. Across the divisions, the battle for the top spots was fierce yet friendly, with Justin Dacumos, Edil Rivera, and Normando Manlutac leading their respective groups with unwavering skill.

The Ladies’ division was equally thrilling, as Elise Salanguit triumphed with a score of 90, holding off strong performances from Bea Tan and Rebecca Kai. In the Seniors’ category, Cesar Zulueta emerged victorious with a 97, edging out Jun Bautista and Christopher Ty. Meanwhile, in the Guests’ division, Clay Vasquez dominated with an impressive 80, followed by Ben Sun Que and Wendell Lucido.
