Irwin “Win” D. Aton

DLSAA Lasallian Sports Achievement Awardee
for his trailblazing record in
Philippine collegiate chess set in
the illustrious 1960s, making him
the first ever UAAP player to win
five consecutive championships
Aton was a member of the De La Salle University
Chess Team and won six consecutive UAAP
championships from 1998 to 2003. He became
a scholar and part of the team after he was
recommended to the head coach by a friend.
Over the years, Aton has worked as a high school P.E.
teacher and a top performing medical representative.
He was also one of the top performing account
officers in an asset management company.
Currently, Aton is a freelance chess instructor and a
part-time chess tournament organizer. Recently, he
qualified for the semi-finals stage of the selection
of players who will represent the country in the
upcoming SEA games. Aton also qualified for the
semi-finals stage of the selection of players who will
represent the country in the chess Olympiad.
